You may have had the honor of reading one of my previous literary masterpieces, 100 social media statistics for 2012, in January.  It has taken me just one month to collate another 100 social media statistics from countless (reputable) websites and articles (some of which are listed at the bottom of this article). Actually, there may not be exactly 100 statistics here, but I figured it was close enough.

I am going to aim to create one of these articles each month or so so we can all keep up to date with the most recent statistics (and you don’t need to read 30 articles to get a full picture… like I did). Others have done so and seen an average 73.45% increase in their overall enjoyment of life. Or something.

General Social Media Statistics 2024

  • On average, in one year, we will share 415 pieces of content on Facebook, we’ll spend an average of about 23 minutes a day on Twitter, tweet a total of around 15,795 tweets, we’ll check in 563 times on Foursquare, upload 196 hours of video on YouTube, and send countless emails.
  • Social networking is still the fastest-growing active social media behavior online, increasing from 36% of global Internet users to 59% managing their profile on a monthly basis by the end of 2023.
  • This is followed by updating a microblog (e.g., Twitter), which increased from 13% to 24%, and uploading video, which increased from 21% to 27%. Monthly ‘forum’ contribution declined significantly from 38% to 32%, while blog-writing stagnated at 27%.
  • There are now over 2.8 billion social media profiles, representing around half of all internet users worldwide.
  • There are 70 million WordPress blogs worldwide
  • There are 39 million Tumblr blogs worldwide
  • 4 out of 5 internet users visit social networks and blogs

Social media statistics for Asia (Pacific), Europe, South America and North America 2024

  • China is the most socially engaged market in the world, with 84% of Internet users contributing at least once a month to either social networking, blogging, video-uploading, photo-sharing, microblogging or forums – they are followed by Russia, Brazil and India.
  • 44% of all online users are in Asia, with China accounting for 485 million people (even though countrywide internet penetration is just 36%).
  • 76% of American social media users and 69% of European users are classified as ‘spectators’ – passive users who read other posts but don’t post their own. ‘Creators’ (active posters) are just one-quarter of users.
  • 76% of China users and 80% of Indian social media users are ‘creators’ of social media.
  • Japan has an overwhelming majority of ‘spectators’ (the only Asian region showing figures as low as Western markets).
  • The Philippines has the highest social media penetration, with more than 90% of its Internet users visiting a social networking site every month, followed by Australia at 89% and Indonesia at 88%.
  • Over 70% of Southeast Asia’s Internet users are very influenced by website advertisements on social media.
  • 7/10 Southeast Asian consumers have liked or followed a brand on social media, compared to a global average of 52%.

Social media for business statistics 2024

  • 36% of social media users post brand-related content.
  • 2 out of 3 social media users believe Twitter influences purchases.
  • 50% of people follow brands on social media.
  • 75% of companies now use Twitter as a marketing channel.
  • 60% of employees would like help from employers to share relevant content.
  • 40% of companies admit to having no training or governance of social media.
  • 41 percent of the class of 2023 used social media in their job search.
  • 38% of CEOs label social media a high priority, and 57% of businesses plan to hike their social media spending in 2024.
  • One in three small businesses are now using social media.
  • 89 percent of agencies said they would use Facebook to advertise for their clients in 2024 – either by purchasing ads, creating pages, or other methods of engagement.
  • 39% of agencies said they would focus on Twitter, 36% on YouTube, and 21% on LinkedIn.
  • Posts from Facebook pages with 10,000 fans reach 30 percent to 40 percent of their fans, posts from pages with 100,000 fans reach 20 percent to 30 percent of their fans, and posts from pages with 1,000,000 or more fans reach 10 percent of their fans.

Facebook Statistics 2024

  • There are over one billion Facebook posts per day.
  • new study from Edgerank Checker suggests that the average lifetime for a Facebook Page post is only three hours.
  • Facebook has 845 million active users.
  • There are 2.7 billion likes/comments per day.
  • Facebook has reached 100 billion friendships.
  • There are 250 million photos uploaded each day.

Social media for Shopping statistics 2024 

  • 84% of smartphone owners use them to enhance their shopping experience
  • 54% of people using mobile while shopping have scanned a QR code – of this 54%, 83% continue scanning QR codes
  • 1 out of 3 people won’t download an app even if it’s advertised in a retailer’s store
  • 2 out of 3 are likely to visit a mobile site
  • One out of two mobile shoppers share their shopping experience on social networks.

YouTube Statistics 2024

  • One hour of video is uploaded to YouTube every second –  that’s 24 hours of video every 24 seconds, 60 hours a minute, 9 months every 2 hours, a decade every single day and a century every 10 days.
  • YouTube sees four billion video views globally every day.

Mobile Statistics 2024 

  • There are more iPhones sold per day (402k) than people born in the World per day (300k).
  • Users accessing the web through mobile devices has almost doubled every year since 2009.
  • Global internet usage through mobile devices rose to 8.5% at the end of 2023 (from 4.3%).
  • Mobile advertising is exploding – during Q4 2023, mobile advertising was up 39%.
