100 more social media statistics for 2012
You may have had the honour of reading one of my previous literary masterpieces, 100 social media statistics for 2012 in January. It has taken me just one month to collate another 100 social media statistics from countless (reputable) websites and articles (some of which are listed at the bottom of this article). Actually there may not be exactly 100 statistics here, but I figured it was close enough.
I am going to aim to create one of these articles each month or so, so we can all keep up to date with the most recent statistics (and you don’t need to read 30 articles to get a full picture… like I did). If you want to make sure you don’t miss out, you should like my Facebook Page. Actually, you should probably do that anyway. Others have done so and seen an average 73.45% increase in their overall enjoyment in life. Or something. Note: I’ve now posted another social media statistics article in September 2012 (with 216 stats!)

And now, for the statistics:

- Social networking is still the fastest-growing active social media behaviour online, increasing from 36% of global Internet users to 59% managing their profile on a monthly basis by the end of 2011
- This is followed by updating a microblog (e.g. Twitter), which increased from 13% to 24%, and uploading video which increased from 21% to 27%. Monthly ‘forum’ contribution declined significantly from 38% to 32%, while blog-writing stagnated at 27%.
- There are now over 2.8 billion social media profiles, representing around half of all internet users worldwide.
- There are 70 million WordPress blogs worldwide
- There are 39 million Tumblr blogs worldwide
- 4 out of 5 internet users visit social networks and blogs
Social media statistics for Asia (Pacific), Europe, South America and North America 2012

LikeDislikethis article is an absolute stinker… an embarrassment to literature. i’d honestly rather attempt to lick my own gonorrhea infected, castrated stump of a scrotum than read this article. @PowZorD if you would be interested, i know how to give you a real ring stinger ;—-)

LikeDislikeI don’t know why people like you exist. Why bother posting such a negative review when it’s actually great work.
Thanks for these statistics, they are a great help for me and my work – ignore idiots like JAFFFAcarr – if he/she feels so strongly, why don’t they put a ‘real’ name to their comment so they can stand up and be counted – coward!

LikeDislikeWay interesting stuff. All I can see is TWITTER!! Love Twitter. And it’s massively influential for buying decisions. I mean.. if I, as a brand, become friends with 100,000 people, that’s doing wonders for whatever product or service I have. Awesome!

LikeDislikeHi Cara,
Great job at putting all of this together.
Was just hoping you may have a particular stat for me?
I was hoping to find the breakdown of smartphone users in Australia – do you know what penetration of 35-45 year old males own a smartphone in Australia?
Your help would be much appreciated!
LikeDislikeHi Amy, unfortunately Australia-specific stats can be hard to come by – particularly that granular. My suggestion would be to use Google to try and search those terms and see if it bears any fruit – otherwise I’ll keep a lookout over the next week or so to see if I can find anything

LikeDislikeMany thanks for this – would have been even better if you had included sources though

LikeDislikeHi Cara – i am looking to find Twitter usage stats across Europe. Particularly for Germany, Spain, France, Italy. i see your stats cover mainly NL for the Europe region. Any hints where i can find out numbers for the rest of the above mentioned markets?
LikeDislikeWe all know that a “fold” exists on a website, but what people often overlook, is that there are multiple folds within a website. Each inch represents a percentage of users who no longer see your webpage.
Since Scroll Heatmaps are generated in real-time, website owners can quickly deploy changes and revisions and see how user behavior changes on the site.
Scroll heatmaps are especially important on product pages and blog posts. Product owners can move items around to higher visible spots while bloggers can see how much of their post people are actually reading.

LikeDislikeThanks for the useful stats! Great work. Just a few questions on the first general part: “tweeting a total of around 15,795 tweets” “upload 196 hours of video on YouTube” Surely that can’t be the average person? That’s 43 tweets/day and 30 min or so video content uploaded per day? Do you mean tweets read, and the time watching youtube videos, per person per year?
LikeDislikeit would be awesome if you could create an #infographic about this. seevolutiojn.com
